AI filter styles compared

Cartoon, anime, watercolour, sketch, pop art, pixel… what each style does and when to use it.

Each AI filter transforms the same portrait in a very different direction. Some flatten and simplify, some add texture, some change the whole medium. This comparison helps you pick the right one for an avatar, a print or a gift.

Simplifying styles: cartoon, anime, Disney-like

These styles smooth skin, enlarge eyes slightly and simplify shapes. They make excellent avatars because the face stays readable at small sizes. The 3D cartoon look is the most popular for profile pictures.

Textured styles: watercolour, sketch, pop art

Watercolour and pencil sketch imitate a hand-made medium and print beautifully. Pop art uses flat, saturated colours and strong outlines — great for a wall print or a bold banner.

Playful styles: pixel art, claymation

Pixel art reduces the picture to a retro game look; claymation gives it the volume of a stop-motion figure. Both are fun for gaming profiles and family sets.

Photographic styles: HDR, vintage, black and white

These keep the picture photographic and change its mood: HDR for punchy detail, vintage for warm faded tones, black and white for a timeless portrait.

Checklist

  1. Upload a portrait with the face well lit and in focus
  2. Avatar: pick a simplifying style
  3. Print: pick a textured style
  4. Family set: apply the same style to everyone
  5. Try two or three styles — they are quick

The table below summarises each style in one line. When in doubt, try the cartoon and watercolour versions first: they cover most needs.
